Samuel Hill b Pontesbury 13th Feb 1831 married Jane, their son John b Shrewsbury 1853 according to the 1861 census. Samuel, a coal miner, migrated with his family first to Staffordshire and then to the Northeast where he became a County councillor. No marriage appears in any of the Shrewsbury churches or Chapels and I cannot locate Samuel in the 1851 or 1841 censuses. Has anyone access to Pontesbury church records?

Trying to locate Jane's maiden name from births of children.
Agnes aged 5 is on the 1871 census born North Seaton, which comes under the registration district Morpeth.
Searched 1865 and 1866 inclusive , one only
March 1866 Morpeth volume 10b page 309
with names Agnes B Hill and AGnes R Hill but both the same registration reference so it looks like some dispute over the second name. But this would give mother's maiden name.

Just in case, you might know already..... You can get the certs for £7 from here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
Tick you have the GRO index reference on page one and alll you need is the name and the above references on page three, the red-starred bits.

Thanks for the information. The birth certificate of Agnes seems the best one to tackle first and I have ordered that.
