My husband's ancestor, James Watters, born abt 1857 County Tyrone, came to Australia, apparently from New Zealand in about 1873. His father was Samuel Watters, mother Hannah (maybe Shannon).
Apparently Samuel and Hannah emigrated to NZ (from Ireland) at some stage. There may have been a daughter called Isabel.
Any help at all, please, on where to start to find more about this family?
Sorry, have not been able to find any evidence of Samuel and Hannah WATTERS coming to NZ. ( Searched under "Waters" "Walters" etc. too, just in case there may have been a mis-spelling of the surname). No sign either of an "Isabel" (shipping and marriage index search).
[There was a "John A. WATTERS - aged 19 (b.c. 1859) - from Co. Tyrone - arrived at Wellington NZ from London on 15 December 1878 aboard "Hermione" (listed amongst single men) ??] :
Have you managed to find your James on a passenger list into Australia ?
No, Lu, haven't found any definite entry into Australia. His death certificate in 1922 has that he was 6 years in NSW and then 43 years in Queensland. He was suuposedly in NSW in 1877 in the artillery, but I am yet to confirm this.

In 1990, I helped with the inception of and transcribed records for the Kowai District archives (North Canterbury) which covers Sefton, Balcairn and surrounding areas and i'm sure Watters featured in those archives.
It might pay to contact them to see if they may be able to help you further.
