Can anyone throw any light on Hanna's in Co Down? In particular an Anne Hanna, born 1777,daughter of John Hanna and ?? She married John Coulter c 1798 in Dromore. They had 2 children Anne 1799 ans Samuel 1800. Where is the townland of Ballywilliam in relation to the town of Dromore? If it's any help Samuel Coulter m'd Ellen Beck, and their daughter Ellen Coulter m'd James Mc Alister.Very grateful for any help. Agnetta

Hello Agnetta,

There are three items required when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish.
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as your ancestors were  born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. The marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards.

I hope that you mean one of the Ballywilliams in Co. Down as there's a total of seventeen townlands named Ballywilliam in Ireland.

Ballywilliam.   219. Castlereagh Lower. Comber. Newtownards. (27 miles from Dromore)
Ballywilliam.   312. Ards Lower. Donaghadee. Newtownards. (36 miles from Dromore)

Christopher - thanks for that. Only too well aware that I have to rely on Church records for people in this time frame. Just hoped that someone in the Dromore area could shed some light on them. Thanks again. Agnetta.
