"Yet" Newcomb birth-c 1850
« on: Tuesday 29 April 08 12:19 BST (UK) »

Hi,
I've found a girl on the 1861 census with a very unusual name.I read her name as "Yet"Newcomb, age 10,born Southwell, the daughter of John PACEY and his wife Ann of Bottom Street ,Elston,Notts.I can't find her on FreeBMD or on the IGI  so could someone look on 1837 online(or whatever it's called now-lol) for me.
Many thanks.

Hi everyone.
Many thanks for your help.
So everyone thinks this girl on the 1861 census is Sarah A.?Can someone take a look at the 1861 census and see if I'm seeing things. It certainly looks like "Yet".If that's a knickname it's got to be a hell of a unusual one-lol.

I agree it's unreadable. Whether it's 'Yet' I couldn't say - I can't find another capital Y from the same enumerator  Undecided

It's quite clearly Sarah in 1851, and I suppose she's the Sarah Ann Pacey age 20 born Elston in service at Eastwood in 1871.

1881?

The clue seems to be using Newcombe in the enumerated name - which matches the fact that she was registered as such  Wink
