Topic: Totally stuck on dad's side (Read 231 times)

I've hit the brick wall and am not sure where to turn next. I am trying to trace back down my dad's line and have got back to my great grandad on this side but I am finding it impossible to take the next step back. What would be your suggestions?
All I know of Great Grandad Edgar is from his marriage certificate. He married in 1918, certificate lists him as a 20yr old bachelor in the Army Ordnance Corps - his residence is given as Shoreham Camp in Sussex. They married at Saint Peter's Church in Keighley, which I have not been able to find mention of online. His father is listed as John Sharpe - I can't quite read his occupation but it seems to be along the lines of warehouseman.
Can anyone suggest where to go next? There are a few possible culprits on the 1901 census but nothing that leaps out - how do I figure out which is him?

Is his name Edgar SHARPE?
What do you understand about his likely origins - was he a Yorkshireman as far as you know? There is only one birth about the right time in Yorkshire.
Who were the marriage witnesses? Sometimes they are relatives.

Yes Edgar Sharpe. As far as I know he was Yorkshire through and through however we don't really talk to that side of the family so he could be from Mars...  He definately stayed in Keighley after the wedding as my grandad is born there 4 years later.
The marriage witness are a George Parr (name of bride's father so presume it's him) and a Mary Ann Cryer - at least I think that's the surname, it's hard to read. That surname means nothing to me.
There is an Edgar Sharpe born in Keighley in 1897 which appears perfect however that Edgar has Isaac Sharpe listed as the father on every record I've found, why would it be recorded as John on the marriage certificate?
Thank you for the link to the church - there's a phone number there so perhaps someone could help me out by looking at the records - presuming he was baptised as well as married there!

Edgar Beecroft SHARPE born Dec qtr 1896 was the son of Isaac SHARPE and Maria LONSDALE.
Isaac SHARPE was the son of John Beecroft SHARPE and Mary BARBER.
All from Keighley according to census and FreeBMD.
He could have been registered as Isaac, but called John. John Beecroft SHARPE was a warehouseman.
Just a thought.
