Aldeburgh Lifeboats
« on: Sunday 16 March 08 04:12 GMT (UK) »

Looking for any info to do with Aldeburgh lifeboats in the 1800's and early 1900's, my family name is Pallant and my ggg uncle was a coxswain, his name was James Rodney, but I think he was known as Rodney.  I have been in touch with the museum who have sent me out some photos of some Pallant men, but any other info would be great, thanks a lot, christine.

Hello Aussie Christine  Cheesy

http://aldeburghlifeboat.org.uk/  will take you to the Lifeboat at Aldeburgh, and there is a page on History.

On the 'One Suffolk' web site (Suffolk county Council Community web site) you can find an interview www.onesuffolk.co.uk/Features/Aldeburgh+Lifeboat+-+Saving+Lives+at+Sea.htm

BBC-Radio Suffolk has another interview at www.bbc.co.uk/suffolk/content/articles/2006/05/04/aldeburg_lifeboat_feature.shtml

Might lead to other routes to find more information on your Pallant ancestry and the lifeboat at Aldeburgh.

Mmmm!

Have you tried the Suffolk Photographic Survey which is housed at the Suffolk Record Office (my husband helped with cataloguing the photographs).

Or have http://www.senseofplacesuffolk.co.uk/ any photographs to help?

On the subect of photographs - my late mother in law was so adamant that we should write information on the back of photographs, that every photograph I ever gave her had full details written neatly along the bottom of the reverse of the photograph.  When she passed away we found lots and lots of photographs - the only ones with identification were the ones I had given her!

Will keep thinking if there are any more avenues to search  Grin

Must sit down in a darkened room, too much brain activity going on today  Grin

Have you tried contacting the Aldeburgh and District Local History Society ?

The contact name is actually the Local History Recorder for Aldeburgh, so I have his details in my Suffolk Local History Council directory.

If you wish to contact them, I will PM you the details.
