Hmm 14th regiment ,he could have been a friend of Andrews.I have seen that before where brothers and sisters marry brothers and sisters or friends. Stands to reason with naming patterns there would be an Elizabeth. Andrews mother was also a Mary. I had found that entry last year, but not having much information put it away...somewhere. The fact that both married in 1864. The 14th regiment was in NZ 1860-1866 then went to Oz in August 1866. I am starting to suspect family gossip may be wrong and Andrew and Mary didn't enter via SA in 1869. 2 children were supposed to have been born in NZ, but I have only found 1 in 1865. How would I find what battalion James was in? Not all the 65th went on various deployments. The 65th was on convict escort duty for a while, so they were going to and from England to Tassie and Norfolk.

Cheers

May have to wait for a death cert from NZ. Will it tell me where he is buried? Oz ones do.

See the "stickies" on first page of this board "What's on BMD certs" ...  it gives info on what certs. for different eras,  contain - (well, that is to say, what questions were asked of an informant).    It should hopefully tell you his burial place -mostly they do .

Hi  .... can you just clarify please, which James you are asking about here ?   ("How would I find out what battalion
James was in"   .... do you mean James CHANCE or the James QUINLAN in the 14th regiment) ?

Yes .... well, as you wish.

Obviously, when questions are asked by those who are attempting to assist you, then it is done for a very good reason!
It is you who will benefit from any information which can be provided!     Please also remember that the volunteers on this board often go "out of their way" to source additional information - that which is not available online or which you may, (if you're not in NZ), have to pay a researcher to find for you !

And perhaps on your new thread you could post a link back to this thread, to avoid duplication of effort by any others who may try to assist you ?

My apologies...I put on the old link about the new one. I hope I have not confused or offended anyone. I was requested to move the subject  from this title.
