« on: Wednesday 30 April 08 08:42 BST (UK) »

Help needed please to find the family of William Sollit Fox b.c.1895. I have found him with his brother John Sollit Fox and a John (his father?). I know he had sisters but cannot find them or his mother.

There doesn't seem to be a birth registration in the name Sollit Fox but there's

John Sollitt
Sep 1890  Sheffield  9c  478

and

William Sollitt
Jun 1894  Sheffield  9c 618

hi Tati,
thanks a million for the info. It seems that John and Ann never married and that John (jnr) and William took the surnames of both the father and mother. Intriguing!

Yes, looks very likely.

Ann's husband dies in 1888 so he can't be the father (Alfred John Sollitt age 32, Mar 1888 Sheffield
9c 346)

Ann seems to have been a Mason prior to her marriage:

you are correct when you say Ann was a Mason,  have just found them on 1881 census. Her parents were George and Sarah plus 5 siblings.
