1861 Census Lookup Please - WRATTEN
« on: Thursday 01 May 08 19:52 BST (UK) »

Hello RootsChatters,

Could SKS please take a look at the 1861 for Rebecca WRATTEN b. 1854, Burmarsh, Kent ? I think her father is Jacob WRATTEN.

I have found elements of this family in Burmarsh, Brenzett, Brookland, East Guldeford (Sussex) and Saltwood.

Many thanks in advance,

Regards, Bernard

John Thomas son 9 b.Burmarsh

Are you tracing backwards or forwards?  I only ask because I do have some WRATTEN/CLOKE references coming forwards.

Hi Casalguidi,

Thanks for responding to both my postings. Your ESP must be on overdrive !!! Just the other day I stumbled upon both of these Wratten entries on someone's CLOAKE website. I knew they must be related but the IGI showed Caroline being a WRATTEN 'til she married Henry CLOAKE. I also saw the Caroline CARR BMD entry together with a WORDSWORTH candidate !!! The Kent Registration Marriage index didn't show either one in 1850...What happened there ??!!!

I found out that Shoebury had/has a large military garrison, so I thought Jacob may have been in the army or something, causing the Essex birth. My original search had been started by a WRATTEN/DRAY marriage which expanded to a CLOAKE/WRATTEN match(es)...

If you have other WRATTEN/ClOKE info, I'll be happy to receive. It's probably all relative !!! Wink

Regards, Bernard

I don't know, there are lots of errors and 1850 is one of the years completely missing Roll Eyes

Rebecca WRATTEN sp married Charles CLOKE (son of Henry) ba at Saltwood 29 Feb 1876.  I didn't note the father of Rebecca as I was only interested in CLOKE entries at that time.

Now, this is where it gets interesting, Caroline WRATTEN widow (Rebecca's mother) was married to Charles CLOKE's father, Henry CLOKE widower, at Burmarsh in 1867.

1871

Mary Jane WRATTEN dau 10 b.Sheerness

RG10/1019 folio 25 page 1
...............................

Charles CLOKE & Rebecca WRATTEN had the following children:

1) Herbert Wyndham CLOKE 1878 Saltwood, married Ellen GATSELL 11 Oct 1900 Folkestone .................... Herbert C 1900, Dorothy Violet 1903, Daisy Rebecca 1905, Mildred Lucy 1908 + others later.

2) Charles 1880 Saltwood

Hi Casalguidi,

Thanks for all the additional info. I see that there's also a marriage between William CLOAK (b.1831 Hythe) and a Julia Anna CARR in 1851 ( Saltwood ?). BTW, it was HUGGETT/DRAY marriage that lead me to the CLOAKE website.

Thanks again for all your help,

Regards, Bernard

I see that there's also a marriage between William CLOAK (b.1831 Hythe) and a Julia Anna CARR in 1851 ( Saltwood ?)

They married in Hythe, she born Dymchurch and here is Julia with her family prior to marriage (I haven't investigated to see whether there is any connection to Caroline CARR/WRATTEN but it could explain movement between counties):

1851

Dymchurch Road, Hythe, Kent

John CARR head mar 64 coastguard pensioner b.Surrey
Debrannah wife 57 b.Essex
Julia dau 17 b.Dymchurch
Hugh son 13 b.Dymchurch
Charles son 11 b.Dymchurch

HO107/1633 folio 592 page 6
......................

1841

No. 25 Tower, Dymchurch

John CARR 50 N
Dinah 45 N
Mary 15 N
William 12 N
Rebecca 10 N
Julia 7 Y
Agnes 5 Y
Charles 3 Y
