John Day B 1817
« on: Tuesday 29 April 08 14:03 BST (UK) »

Can anyone help me please? John Day Born about 1817 in romsey. I would like to know his parents names and his birth date. John was a butcher in romsey and there was a William Day in romsey, also a butcher, probably his brother, born 1804.

If anyong has any info I would be very grateful

Hi Amyou,

I've found a William Day born 15 Aug, baptised 19 Sep 1802 in Romsey, parents John and Mary.

No sign of a John in Romsey until 1838  Sad

Further along Middlebridge St you will find William Day age 35 and his wife Kezie..He is the butcher and a little bit further along the St is a William 65 and Elizabeth 68 Day..Thought they were possibles for parents...

Im too tired tonight but if you want I will post full details if you havent got them.

Hi,

The family found by Sisterjane are with his inlaws the PEARCE family in 1851  HO107/1671  f.174  p.30, let me know if you need this transcribed Smiley

I found this marriage on the IGI,

John DAY
Father:  John DAY

Spouse:  Olive PEARCE
Father:  Richard PEARCE
Marriage:  12 Sep 1838   Romsey, Hampshire

John DAY    Sep Q 1838    Romsey    v.7  p.208
Olive PEARSE with same details.

Getting the cert would confirm if his father's name was John but the IGI entry was extracted and not member submitted so hopefully reliable.

Regards

thank you all for your help. I can look up census details, so don't worry on that score.

I knew about the William Day, Butcher (I thought they might be brothers working together). I thought that Olive and John had married earlier than 1838. I will definately get the marriage cert and find out the father, hopefully.

Thanks again

Hi Amyou

One can only wonder at just how long Middlebridge St was because there is a John Day 60 with Mary Day 60 and a Lucy Day 20..I know it dosent mean they are Johns parents but you never know.....also there are Pearces!!who live on there as well... Grin Grin

Thank you for that Jane. John and Mary seem very likely parents. It must have been a very long street.

The pearces and the Days were linked again when John and Olive Day's son (also John) married Matilda Pearce! Lots of interbreeding. From what I can work out their grandfathers were brothers, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

thanks again

Every little helps!
