Annoying Problem
« on: Wednesday 30 April 08 13:54 BST (UK) »

Hi Everyone,
Just purchased my second Epson Printer (DX8450) and I have this problem which I never had with my previous one, can anyone help please.
When I was installing the Epson software I experienced slight difficulty because my Camera software (Fuji) interrupted the installation. However, I managed to complete the installation and the Printer works perfectly.
My problem is that every time I want to print something and switch on the printer this task is interrupted by my Fuji Finepixviewer, which  shows all of my photos on my Desktop Monitor, followed by an Error Notification stating,
1/0 Error Occured, Process Aborted.
My actions so far was to remove my Camera software totally from my system,
then, reinstall. However, this has made no difference at all.
Any help would be appreciated

I assume they are both USB devices?

I don't know how many USB ports you have on your computer but it worthwhile plugging your printer into another USB port.

For instance, if your camera is usually plugged into a USB port at the front, then plug your printer into a USB port at the back.

You may need to have a look at your USB hubs using Device Manager.  Although USB ports should be swappable sometimes it can cause a conflict if you share one USB port with two separate devices.

There are 2 types of USB ports:

1.1 (the old slower standard)
2.0 (transfers data 40 times faster than USB 1.1)

In device manager you should see a listing for an Enhanced Host Controller under Universal Serial Bus Controllers if you have USB 2.0.

As both of your devices sound like they are relatively new, I presume they can both take advantage of USB 2.0.  If they have been designed to use USB 1.1 then they can still work if you plug them into a USB 2.0 port.

You seem to have some kind of USB port conflict for some reason, so theoretically if you try plugging the devices into different ports the problem may go away.

Hi Downside,
I am using the same USB port with this new printer as I did with my old Epson printer, which is on the back of the PC. (no probs with old printer)
I only use the USB port on the front when I download photos from my camera and I have never used this method since I purchased my printer two weeks ago.....so what triggers off the software that holds all of my photos to come on my monitor when I switch the printer on has me beat, of course it does not help when your not a Technical person like me.....it's just so annoying !!
Of course I could throw the camera away and uninstall the software and "Bingo" resolve my problem.
Thanks again Downside

Both devices should work correctly.

Go into Control Panel and double click System.

Then click on the Hardware tab.

Then click on the Device Manager button.

It should display a list of your hardware devices.

Do any of these devices have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to it?

I was just looking at the Trouble shooting section of the Fuji camera and found this:

Quote
I want to stop the Exif Viewer from launching automatically.
If you use the procedure below to remove Exif Launcher, Exif Viewer will no
longer launch automatically.
Solution: Restart your PC and hold down the [Shift] key as soon as the wallpaper
appears.
Do not release the [Shift] key until the wallpaper and all your icons have
appeared to show that startup has finished.
Click the [Start] button and select [Programs]-[Startup]-[Exif Launcher] from
the “Start” menu. Click the right mouse button on [Exif Launcher] and
select “Remove” from the pop-up menu.
As of the next time you start up your PC, Exif Launcher will no longer
launch automatically.

Hi Downside,
Thanks for your reply and sorry for my delay.
Tried your first option, no yellow triangles present. However, your second option appears to have done the trick as I have just switched on my printer and (so far anyway) I never had any interruption from the camera software.
So, thanks again for your help and I don't have to thow my camera out of the window now.
