Pinnell family
« on: Wednesday 21 May 08 20:09 BST (UK) »

Hi all

Can anyone work their magic on this question please?

Henry Nelson Haywood b 1863 Lewes was my GGG Uncle he married Emily I Pinnell. In the 1891 census, a Pamla Pinnell Sister in law was living with them, (lit not a typo) Emily appears as a servant in the 1881, Pamla marries in 1892 to Albert Watts. Other than this the girls seem to have appeared out of thin air in 1881 and 1891 respectively.

There seem to be a few Pinnells around the area and an earlier marriage 1847 for Pamla Pinnell - possibly her mother? or grandmother?

Hope you can help, thanking you in advance

They are 'Pirmell' in 1881 (Pinnell on the image)

Unfortunately, the girl who is Pamela's age is called Amelia ... but I can't find a birth for an Amelia

Thank you

I think you are right maybe she was Amelia Pamla, or they told the names to the enumerator, or he/she transcribed incorrectly

I am going with them until proved wrong.

thanks again

I have an Amelia Pinnell on my tree too. She was born in 1851 in Oxford - daughter of Henry Pinnell and Eliza Tucker.

Henry and Eliza do not appear to have ever married and Henry died young (in 1866).  They appear to have had a son(s) Henry and or William.  Henry Pinnell is with Eliza Tucker and her son Henry Tucker in Oxford 1851 and with Eliza and William Tucker born 1850 in 1861still in Oxford - Amelia is with her Aunt and Uncle Jeremiah and Caroline Pinnell in Badminton, Gloucs in 1861.  Henry is a groom, Eliza is a laundress.

Jeremiah and Henry were the children of Thomas Pinnell and Amelia Yeeles and I have more information about their ancestors.

I have not been able to find anything more about William or Henry Tucker and all I know about Eliza Tucker is that she was born in 1825 in Iffley according to the census.

I realise this is no help at the moment but the coincidence of names is interesting!  The Pinnells seem to have been centred around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire,
