William Quinsey - 1814 to ????
« on: Wednesday 30 April 08 21:20 BST (UK) »

Hello Everyone,

Please could someone assist in my search for William Quinsey who was born 1814 in St Mary's, Hinckley, Leicestershire.

He's a very illusive individual and I can only find him in one census at home with his wife and children in 1851 (HO107 Piece 2090 Folio 593).  He was still alive in April 1881 when his son married and he was a labourer/bricklayer all his life.

I am trying to find where he was in 1841, 1861, 1871 and 1881, possibly 1891 as well if he was still alive?

I have not been able to locate a possible death date or location despite all my best efforts either.  He's not been buried in any family plot or with his wife or children that I know of.

I would be very grateful of any leads, but as always the spelling and pronunciation of Quinsey is going to be the biggest problem in solving these questions I expect.

Thanks for looking.

Hi

On both the 1871 and 1881 census returns, Sarah Abbot Quincey is shown as a Widow.

Hi DS,

Agreed Sarah is a widow on the 1871 and 1881 census, but on Charles (his son's) marriage cert in April 1881 William is given as being William De Quincey (bricklayer) but no mention that he is deceased.  Undecided

Hi S.J.

Just because it doesn't say he was deceased on the marriage doesn't mean he was still alive - I have come across lots of occurances where it has not been mentioned on the marriage certificate that the father is dead.

It would also explain why you can't find him in the census
