The Farrens lived in a place called Oldtown, near Culdaff in Inishowen, Co. Donegal.
My grandfather, James McDaid eloped to Scotland with my grandmother Elizabeth Farren and married in Greenock in 1899. Their journey to Greenock was predicated by the prescence there of Elizabeth's and Mary's brother, Conn Farren.
Greta's mother,Mary and her husband Joseph McGrory lived in Derry where Greta was born and they stayed there for a period and were living in the Duntocher/ Clydebank area in Scotland by the time of the arrival of my grandparents to firstly to Clydebank and then eventually Duntocher.
Their reasons for migration being similar to that of my grandparents being the availability of work on Clydeside and the prescence of family members already there.
My grandparents appear in the 1901 census in Livingstone Street and four years later their third child, John is born and shown as registered in 35 New Street in Duntocher.
My grandparents then remained living in Duntocher alongside the rest of their Farren/ McGrory connection until their deaths.

Hi, not sure where to start here. Finding this site very interesting. My Dad stayed in Duntocher all his life, his name was Frank Kelly, he had 2 sisters and 1 brother who died in 1935. His mother was Agnes Cassidy, died in 1993 and his father was Patrick Kelly who died in 1942. I read a post about someone knowing Annie Cassidy, I'm sure that would be my Dads Auntie. Dad stayed in Carleith Ave and Old Street in Duntocher. Then they moved to Hillend Cresc. Anyone know them? Would be good to know more about my Dads childhood as he recently passed away. I loved him telling all his stories...mostly football!! Thanks Marie

My mother was from Duntocher too. She was the daughter of Denis O'Connor from Tralee (died 1933) and Mary Cassidy (b. 19.8.1872). Her aunt was Agnes Cassidy ( b. 7.4.1874) who married Joseph McNeil in 1926 and they kept a shop; there was also a brother, Patrick...............and another brother, Francis Cassidy, b. 7.8.1883, who was illegitimate. I'm curious to know what happened to Francis............he married a Maggie Callachan 9.4.1904, and they had twin babies Kate and Mary 7.10.1904. Kate died a few weeks old, but I can't trace what happened to Mary, or to Francis and Maggie. They all lived in Old Street. Anyone know?

Hi Billy,
How do you know Frank?
Are you related to the Williams?
Have an idea who you are.

Yes, Jean is my cousin. I knew Frank very well when I was a teenager but we lost touch when I left Scotland in 1969. He was a great guy who helped me a lot. Billy

Yes Dad was agreat guy, had his faults like all of us but on the whole he was great. Thank you for that.
He passed away Dec 08, sadly. Still miss him every day but we had a few good years to get to know ech other and my kids adored him too.
How are you and your family?
