don't forget one kid dying then naming the next one the same.

Yes indeed - in this case however the existing child David lived on for many more years, married and had children of his own.

Thanks for that information Althea, I'm always grateful for more leads to pursue and these might solve some future dead ends!  I have to say, Belham is a new and surprising variation on the name, but I'll bear it in mind when I've tried searching with all the others!

Hi Lass

The marriages are from the NZSG CD of Marriages in NZ 1836-1956
Check the stickies at the top of the board for the full list of details according to specific years for the different certificates.
If you are going to order one, ALWAYS ask for a “PRINTOUT” as it is cheaper AND gives a bit more information.

Here is the total list of BALHARRY marriages.
(none at all for BALHARY)

Bruce 1906 – you already mentioned
Catherine Frances 1895
David 1870 – to Mary Louisa
David 1904
Edith Louise 1912
John Bruce 1938 – you already mentioned
Mary Jane 1928
Norman 1908
Thyra Ruskin 1946

Have you / or the other family members checked out the Probates for David & Mary Louisa?

http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/

There are 2 lots for David & one for Mary – they may list children…..

With regard to living children with the same name in the same family:
I have 2 different families where there are sons with the same name and the first is still alive when the 2nd is born.
In the first family both are to the same mother & father, and in the other family the 2nd son is to the 2nd wife…..
