Off the Wolverhampton Archive site I have found the following

Burials Merridale Cemetery all listed with father Thomas a blacksmith of Bilston Road

Thomas Edward Bowers 9.9.1866 15m
Benjamin 16.12.1866 1 day
Charles 21.7.1872 6 days
Emma 29.11.1874 1m

I've been through all the pages for Bilston Road but I cant spot James I wonder if they have moved by 1871?

I wonder if that is James' brother Thomas - the births are too late for his father Thomas and as he was Thomas Edward it does sound as though they are. Yes they are here in 1881.
RG11; Piece: 2803; Folio: 56; Page: 4
(same family names- they have an Emelia) Had a look at 1871- they are there but James and family are not with them!

I too had a quick look around Bilston Road and have searched for James/Amelia/George/Bowers and variants/ Stanley etc plus Staffs/Wolverhampton etc so at the moment I think the family are on missing pages (if there are any) or just did not get on the census.

Graham,
we perhaps found more than you asked for here- sometimes whilst trying to find a simple thing the searches take over and become quite intriguing as in this case.

good luck with everything

Heywood.  The address on the Directory is 18 Bilston Road, Blacksmith and Cycle Manufacturer.   Some of them move to Coventry for the cycle trade at Singer factory.  I think maybe after 1901.Thanks for all the effort.

Unfortunately on the census that end of the Bilston Road the buildings are named but not numbered  Roll Eyes

The numbered ones run from 99 to 165

Hi Graham and Willow,
I've been worried all day about this family.

1871 - we still can't find them although we have James' mother Mary Ann Beaman in Bilston Rd

I'm not sure of the legalities but I don't imagine you would have been able to marry your aunt- and as we have a marriage, then I wonder if Amelia's father and Mary Ann's father are both called David Partridge and could have been related?

There is a Roger 'Partergs'- does look like Partrige- same age who is a 'smith man' but he not with any of his family in Sedgley Wolverhampton.

As I think I said earlier- the only David Padtridge of a suitable age in 1841 has a daughter Amelia. (the age being based on his age when with daughter mary Ann).

I can't find a Thomas and Mary Ann Bowers with sons Thomas and James in 1841.  Sad

best wishes
