I was wondering if anyone has ordered copies of military records from the National Archives of Canada?
They state that they have no way of knowing how big the files may be which I understand. But when you go to the price per photocopy and then add on the possible mailing cost.....which seems to go up to $106.00 for a large package it seems a little expensive.
The fellow I would be enquiring about was a very unlucky soul and was actually only in battle 2 months before being wounded but apparently was in and out of hospital for 2 years following before he died in a military hospital. His active service records might not be large but I fear the hospital records may be extensive.
I really don't know what to expect so was hoping other had ordered and I could get some idea from that how large the average file would be.
I've ordered a couple of them and don't think I paid more than $20.00 including postage. I think they had between 30-50 pages in them. One of the men had died and spent some time in the hospital as well. On another, there was correspondence up to 1935 with my gr grandmother trying to get a pension.
They say the most you would get is 75 pages which is $30.00, plus postage. But then they have a seniors discount if you're eligible

The Archives are very very good about being reasonable. I ordered my father's WW2 records and it was over 100 pages. They only charged me a portion of what the website stated. I've also ordered dozens of WW1 records and they were quite reasonable. Most hospital notes were one line, all on the same page, so it didn't add up to much.
Leave no stone unturned, that's my genealogy motto. I think you would kick yourself if you didn't send for those records. :-)
