Jane Milligan - COMPLETED
« on: Friday 02 May 08 14:29 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for the birth of my 2x Great Grandmother, Jane Milligan.  She was born c1815 in Kirkcudbrightshire.  Her parents were James Milligan and Jane Hughan (from death cert)  She married a Robert Lockhart (or Lockart) at Kirkcudbright in 1837.  She died 1877 at Gatehouse of Fleet.  I have tried the usual places without luck and cannot find her parents..

If so, there is a possible bpt. of her mother:

Kirkmabreck - 6 Nov 1778 Jean Hughan, daughter of Alexander Hughan

Jean/Jane are used interchangeably at this time.

I think your ancestors and mine  must have known each other  - Kells and Kirkmabreck  Cheesy

There are some problems with the Kirkmabreck records, as I recall, I had problems with marriages, etc. around that time.

I notice that Jane might well have been Robert's second wife - he was a little older than her and seemed to have been married to a Hannah (?) earlier  Undecided

I'vechecked the MIs but nothing  Sad

Hi Gadget

Would his first wife be Hannah  Trollop?  I have 5 births to them in Girthon parish.

A rather unfortunate surname.

Hi
I am also searching the Milligan branch of my tree at the moment and so far I'm back to James Milligan c:1827 married to Mary (surname indecipherable but possibly Gordon) he was Father to my GG Grandmother Margaret, born in Buittle 1856.
The entire family, so far, are all Kirkcudbrightshire, so maybe we have a link.
Regards
Catherine
