CAMPBELL Family Tree Kirkcudbright
« on: Tuesday 08 April 08 21:27 BST (UK) »

Hi everyone, I'm new to this chat. Looked like a good place to post some of my genealogy. I am looking for information on the Campbell's from Kirkcudbright. I have gone back to 1811 but am having trouble going any further. I recently emailed a farm to find out if my gggggrandfather was a farmer there, and it was confirmed. Thats it, she had nothing else for me.

Parish of Colvend
Robert Campbell b. 1811 Kirkpatrick Durham/ farmer 400 acres, employing 4 servants.
married to Janet Dickson
children
George
James
Adam
John
Homer my ggggrandfather
Martha married a Sherman
Garlies
anyone having any knowledge of this tree living or deseased that would be great. Smiley

Hello Tiana

If your people died in Scotland and were substantial farmers, there's a good chance there will be a will on Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk- that section is free to search.  Regards,   Steve  :O)

Thanks to your guidance I have gone back another generation.  I have Roberts baptism notes wich gave me  his father and mother.  This is the 1841 census
Parish of Balmaghie
Anthony Campbell 55 Farmer
Mary (Shaw) 55

Mary 15

Any information beyond this would be great. I haven't found any death records for any of them.

Parish of Colvend 1851 census
Robert Campbell b. 1811 Kirkpatrick Durham/ farmer 400 acres, employing 4 servants.
married to Janet Dickson
children
George

Hi

I'm linking this thread to this one:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,296609.0.html

On the other thread, Tiana, you said that Anthony and Mary had the following children:

Robert June 1811
Anthony July 17 1817
Mary Campbell March 23 1824

I have:

John - 17 July 1809
Robert - 18 June 1811
Janet - 6 Aug 1813
David - 24 Oct 1815
Anthony - 17 July 1817
James  - 1 Sept 1819
Mary - 9 April 1824

all bpt Balmaghie.

Do you know who Mary Shaw's parents are? I'm thinking that Anthony's father was a John and Mary's a Robert but the naming conventions can be switched.

Don't know where you are getting this but great, I'll check on the John and Robert. I do not have Mary Shaw's parents.
