« on: Saturday 03 May 08 04:41 BST (UK) »

Does anyone have a connection to Alfred Dyre (or Dyer) and Ann Stoneman?  Alfred born circa 1826, Ann about 1830/33?
Immigrated to Canada....before 1858.  Alfred definitely born Isle of Wight per death.....
Hope you can help.

What occupation did Alfred follow?   There is an Alfred Dyer in 1851 in Portsea with parents Joseph and Rebecca.  He is a "Smith".   Portsea is very close to IOW.
You really need to find his marriage to be certain of his father's name.

Having looked on www.familysearch.org I see that there is a submitted pedigree for an Alfred Dyer born IOW in 1826 so it might be worth your looking at that - though it does not mention a marriage and both parents seem to be called Dyer which is odd - though not totally unusual.
Can you give more information about your Alfred?   When was his first child born?  What did they call the children?  Where they married in England or after emigrating?
The more the merrier if we are to find him.

The only information I have is the 1881 Census on Family Search....at Osprey Twp, Co Grey, ON......showing his DOB as 1827........and his death registration, which tells that on his death, Sept 12, 1891, he was 66 (making his DOB 1825).Born at Isle of Wight, England...Mason by trade.

His wife was Ann, nee Stoneham.....they seem to have been married in Ontario after she immigrated from England.
With regards to children, I have found Sarah Emily (I think Sarah is Ann's mother's name or his 2 sisters? see 1841 census???).....James Albert,  Matilda, John Henry and Mary Elizabeth.....

On the 1841 Isle of Wight Census, there is a James Dyer , 50, wife Patience 40, with children Eli 20, Alfred 15 ag lab,
Cornelius 8, Sarah 7 and Emily 1.
No proof of Ann & Alfred's marriage date....and no exact proof that this 1841 census is this Alfred, but it looks promising.
Thanks.

This sounds like the one in the Ancestral files on familysearch so do look at it.  It gives the name of the submitter.   However, you really do need to trace his marriage or you may go off on completely the wrong line.

Thanks Daisy.  I already had the 1871 Census, but appreciate your message.  Lots of luck in your own searches.
