Census information Crown Copyright, from www.natio

Good morning,
I would be very grateful if someone would check out details for the following household on the 1841 Census, which may have a lot of importance:
William HARRISON, aged 50, born in Darlington c1790 Agricultural Labourer or Gardener or Weaver. Alice(wife), (née HOPPER) aged 50, born in Hurworth 1789. Jane, aged 15 There may also have been a granddaughter called Jane, aged 1.
Domicile: Possibly Hetton Le Hole.
I'm looking for confirmation of the place of residence and in particular whether the 15 year old jane is mentioned as "daughter" and where the place of birth is given for her.
Many thanks,
Nick

You've beaten me to it Barbara !
I had picked up Jane's existence through familysearch, but not found her in the Hurworth BT's, which I'm still trawling ! So had marked it with a query. William is from Darlington, mentioned in the BT of the birth of his first son, Robert born Hurworth 19.06.1809. So my next move was to check Darlington BT's, which I'm still going to do, as I haven't an exact date for William's birth yet.
In the Hurworth BT's in 1814, 1816 and 1830 (birth of other children), William's occupation is described as "Weaver", on other dates as "labourer".
However, I'm pretty sure that what you have picked up in Darlington is spot on. Jane's birth fits in with other children of the couple.
So a great many thanks for your time and trouble. You've been very helpful.
Nick
PS: I think the 1 year old Jane is very probably a granddaughter - she appears again in the 1851 Census aged 10. If you have a moment, I would appreciate it if you could confirm whether they are still living in Hurworth village in 1851. I presume so.

Thanks for your confirmation. I've just found William in the Darlington BT's.
Bastard son of Eleanor Harrison, baptised in March 1790. William's first daughter was called Eleanor, very probably after his mother, so I feel there is a good chance I've found the right one, although knowing who his father was looks improbable !
Thanks for your help again.

Your input was much appreciated.
Do you know if there are any Bishop's Transcripts available for Yorkshire by any chance ? Consultable on-line I mean !

ancestry has some for Yorkshire, and freereg has some West Riding only, if you search under the place name on genuki that will tell you where records are kept. Which place are you looking for?

Thanks for the tip.
Basically I'm interested in Guisborough and surrounding parishes, but also Osmotherley, Thirsk and Middlesbrough. If I'm not mistaken, that's essentially North Riding ?

Yes, that's right, all North Riding. Ancestry has a list of Yorkshire parishes covered at http://www.rootschat.com/links/01so/
Cleveland Family Society has some Guisborough records on their website

The Internet Archive has about 30 sets of Yorkshire Parish registers free to view or download. Go to www.archive.org and search for Yorkshire Parish Registers. Transcribed at the end of the 19th century by the Yorkshire Parish Register Society. Put on the net in the last month or so by the University of Toronto. Hopefuly its a work in progress. You can't tell from the volume number which parishes they cover, so I listed them. They are big files.

Theres quite a few other parish registers on there from around the country as well.
