Hi Perro

What parish were the couple married in please?  Were they "of the parish" when they wed?

I only found there marriage in Suffolk bits The only parish I have for James is Gt Waldingfield but have been told that is not correct. Gt Waldingfield is from his will in 1838 they lived in Chilton Manors. The other Clue is that I was told that his bother was Simon Golding born 1773 Hundon he married Elizabeth Green and their family are living in Bluedors Farm Monks Risbridge in 1881. Ancestry does have a few people researching Simon but none have any parents for him as all Hundon records were destroyed by fire I understand.

Thanks for your interest.....Perro

Hi Perro

Hundon All Saints Parish Records 1754 - 1900 are available from the SRO, but they do not have permission to copy them without the present incumbent's permission.  You would need to fill out a request form but they will help you with this.  There are 19 fiche, but you only need buy the years that you are interested in.  If you do not have a fiche reader, most libraries will let you use theirs.

There are 2 people researching the GOLDING family from Hundon on the Suffolk Surnames List.  It might be worth contacting them to see if they can help.

Wonderful as the site is there are there are no ref to James and Mary Golding other than their children. From then on I am OK the records are all there until Gt grandfather Lawford Golding lost an arm farming and went to North London c1878.

I have been researching for 10 years now and nothing on James birth sadly  Sad

Hi Perro

Before you do anything I would follow up the lead that Suffolk Sue found with this marriage.

The following marriage is on Boyds marriage index.

1800 / GOLDING  JAS / MAN FIELD  MARY/  CLARE / SUFFOLK

Lookups from Clare PRs are available at The Suffolk Surnames List.  This would give you their parishes of settlement at the time of the marriage.  This may not necessarily be their parishes of birth however, but it is a starting point.

If this does not help and you still wish to proceed with the Hundon records from the SRO and you are still having problems, contact me offlist and I will try to help.

Wow I have just downloaded the Form from SRO and it looks too complicated.....

The NBI burials for Clare include a James Golding 83 (bc.1738) and a William Golding 89 (bc.1733) either of whom could possibly be father of your James.

Clare is not covered on the IGI alas - if not already done think you need to check the baptisms at Clare.

Thank you, I would go for Wm as that is what they in later generations called the eldest son.

I have had Clare parish records checked but they could have missed James. However another hint his farm was quoted in Will as in the Manor of Chilton does Chilton have any parish records please........

Very grateful for any advice

Perro

Yes indeed!  Chilton St Mary PRs 1623 - 1900 are available from the SRO on 5 fiche.  As before with the Hundon records, the incumbent's permission is needed.

This the entry for the church from Simon Knott's excellent SUFFOLK CHURCHES website.
