John Cragg Death 1769-1850
« on: Sunday 18 May 08 09:16 BST (UK) »

Hi,

I am wondering if any one has information on the death of a John Cragg in either Cockermouth or Keswick (Crossthwaite) between 1769 and 1850?

Thanks,

David.

The National Burial Index has

8 Nov 1825 at Cockermouth John CRAGG aged 74

For Cumberland, the NBI coverage is generally 1813-37.

Hi Geoff,

Thank you very much for the information. How would I go about getting more information such as next of kin etc. (assuming that information is available). Would I have to apply for a death certificate?

Thanks,

David.

I'm afraid there's possibly not much else to add - the register may have an occupation (but probably not).  If it were a woman, it might name her husband but generally, a name, an age and a date is all you get.  Perhaps an address.

There were no certificates until mid 1837.

Hi Geoff,

Thank you for your help. The information you have provided will help me immensely. If it is not too much trouble ...is there a Betty or Elizabeth Cragg who was buried in Crossthwaite (Keswick), Workington or Cockermouth between 1770 and 1850? This would be John's wife who gave birth to Isaac in 1770 in the poor house at Keswick.

Regards,

David.

No sign of her but, as I said, I only have 1813-37.

Hi Geoff,

Thankyou. I remembered the date restriction after I hit send. It was worth a try. I have another potential piece to my puzzle with John Cragg thanks to your efforts.

Regards,

David.
