Census 1841 to 1871 NEWMAN
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 02:58 BST (UK) »

Frederic Newman was born in about 1835 in Mount Bures Essex where he lived for at least the next 65 years. In 1855 he married Martha Smith. Frederic was a farmer. I am aware of seven children born starting with Gertrude in 1864, followed by Christopher in 1866. Were there other children born between 1856 and 1863?

Of most value would be the names of Frederic's parents.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Pam,

Thank you for all your time and work. I will do my best to sort out the 12? children that Frederic and Martha produced.

I will see what I can find out about Frederic Newman (1835)'s parents, John Newman, miller, and his wife Mary, from other sources.

Frederic Newman (1835) and Martha Smith's child, Christopher Newman (1866) went to London where he was employed as a Jobmaster's coachman. Christopher appears as Charles in the 1901 census. Christopher Newman married Jessie Allen in 1898, and their son Frederic Allen Newman (1899) went to Canada, or came to Canada if you look at things from my end.

One final request for information from the 1851 census:

Thomas Newman (1774 - 1851) married Rebecca Hayward (1774 - 1858).

Thomas & Rebecca  appear in the 1851 census (I have seen an index entry for them). Where did they say they were born? Another souce mentions "Thomas Newman, miller of Boxted".

Thanks, Pam,  to your earlier replies, I can confirm that their son John Newman (born 1810) married Mary Salmon in 1831 in Mount Bures.

In addition, I will try to link the Newman family in my look-up request to another Newman family in Mount Bures.
Abraham Newman purchased the manor of Mount Bures in 1790. When he died in 1798 the estate passed to his daughter Anne, who married George Caswell, so the male Newman line was no longer residing at the manor.  Abraham's father was Thomas Newman. Thomas married Ann Constable see http://www.bures-online.co.uk/constable/Constable.htm
