Hi All
Mmmm .... just of further interest - Jane Morrow TAYLOR died in 1962 - her son William Percy is not mentioned in her funeral notice ?
(I think the William Percy SIMMONS d.1965 found in Sydenham Cem. by "Kea", is very probably Jane TAYLOR's son - in which case he is still alive at the time of his mother's death) ?

Hi Keeweegal
Just off to the library shortly (if I can drag myself away from 'me 'puter) .... so whilst I'm there, will see if I can dig up anything further of interest for these families. (Will have to put "my drinks" off till later in the day).

Hi Stephanie
Mmmm ... this is turning into one of those exciting hunts, huh ?
It just keeps getting "curiouser and curiouser".

PS: Can't see anything on Marriage Index which looks like a Wm. David or Wm. marrying.

Hi All
Well done (again) Stephanie ! So each had a separate headstone ?
(I've got some new info too ... will deliver it up shortly - need to watch the footy right now).
William Percy's army record (WWII) is likely held at Trentham (Wellington) ?

Hi Keeweegal and Stephanie
[Yeah ... they have funny beer there too ... so if it's all right, I'll just order, a cold Lion Brown ?]
Found death notices for both Wm. P. and Wm. D. SIMMONS but annoyingly, neither contain info which might connect the two of them.
"SIMMONS - On November 23rd (1934) at Christchurch Hospital, William David, late of 65 Kingsley Street, Sydenham, in his 54th year " : (Funeral Director was - John RHIND) [Source: "The Press" (ChCh) - 24 November 1934] :
'SIMMONS - William Percy (late of King Street, Sydenham) On 24 October 1965 at Christchurch, devoted friend of ------ ------- (name of couple) ------ , aged 63 years (suddenly). Late 2nd NZEF Reg. No. 14998 - ex POW (Germany). " [Will PM you the balance of this] - Lamb A. and Hayward Ltd. - Funeral Directors - [Source: "The Press" - 25 October 1965] :
[Stephanie may know this ? Is there both a King Street and a Kingsley Street, in Sydenham ? ]
So a wee bit disappointing - might need to see if they are at a common address on Electoral rolls ?
Some more to follow (... and a surprise)

Surprise Number One
From NZ Death Index -
DEATHS 1886
HERRON - Jane [Folio # 1874] - Reg'd. Christchurch
So yes ... the official record spells her name as HERRON !
[Keeweegal - I really think this is who you are looking for].
Jane didn't appear on any electoral rolls with John Gunning HERRON (1893 - 1914).
