Hi Lu,

Sorry Lu - I didn't make it clear... I think the William Dunlop was a correction and not a separate burial. It was on the same card. But still strange that the name and age could be so wrong. Huh

There was also this:

David Alexander HERRON - see HEREN.
And under HEREN the details : burial 1 March 1881 aged 4 months. Plot 792a Addington Cemetery. (Lilian was also under Heren.)
Can't find him on the library database. Could he also be one of John and Jane's?

Will have to make another trip to the library (when work allows!) and check out the birth index and have another look at the card index.

I have found two entries for Jane Morrow on NZSG index vol4 for burials,

Jane Morrow Taylor 7 July 195?
Jane Morrow Herron Taylor 10 July 1962

I'm confused...or having a senior moment (hour) I think they are the same, perhaps the 7 July is her Date of Death? and they ommitted the Herron? And did she retain her married name when married? Oh boy Embarrassed

Hi K.....gal - I think quite probably the info you have is from the same source as Jean gave earlier? But perhaps she can clarify ? Seems Jane M. Taylor died 7 July 1962 and was buried 10 July ... ("Jane Morrow Herron TAYLOR" may be a reference to what appears on her headstone) ?

Hi all,

I checked the fiches and found these Christchurch births:

1878 Esther Florence HERRON - Folio 1544
1879 William Dunlop HERRON – Folio 1593
(He’s the one whose burial was also registered as James – died Jan 1887)
1880 David HERRON (folio number unreadable) He died Jan 1881 aged 4 months
1883 Jane HERRON – Folio 2817
1884 Lilly HERRON – Folio 4141

William and David may or may not belong to Jane and John Gunning. Undecided

Also popped into Archives and checked out William Percy Herron aka Simmons’ divorce record and probate.
Constance Evelyn Maud Simmons was the petitioner on the grounds that she and William had signed an agreement in 1924, 9 months after the marriage, to live separately due to “unhappy differences having arisen” and this had been in force for 3 years. There was a copy of the agreement in the file. Constance and William had a daughter born in 1923 (just before the marriage) and Constance had sole custody and William paid maintenance.
Unfortunately the marriage certificate showed nothing new – no father’s name for William. Mother: Jane Morrow HERRON

William’s will also not very revealing. He left everything to a friend. No mention of the daughter.
Interestingly, his name on the will was William Percival Henry Simmons – the Herron has become Henry!
William died 24 October 1965.

So still no proof of the link between William Percy and William David other than the fact that they are buried in the same grave!

From the burial list for Taita Cemetery, Lower Hutt (Wellington) :

> Jane Morrow Herron TAYLOR - buried 10 July 1962

> Charles Henry TAYLOR - buried 1 November 1940

..... both buried in Plot 28 X - C of E

[Presumably this is husband Charles? (Although she did have a son named "Charles" ??). Odd that he was not mentioned in her funeral notice as being her "late" husband ? Unfortunately unable to find notice of his death in 1940].

With all the help you have given me regarding Jane Herron nee Morrow and her family, I have now found out who her parents were and who John Gunning Herron's parents were.

Janes parents were Alexander Morrow and Sarah Curry. I cannot locate them anywhere in Ireland, so I guess that will remain a mystery.

I thought that with all the help I received I should let you all know.

Hello everyone, I am very new to this so excuse me if I get confused. have been reading info on William percy Herron (Simmons) with interest, he married and divorced my Grandmother Constance Evelyn Holdem and divorced in 1938, the child was Connie, or constance, also there was an illigetimate brother, Ray, he born before Connie, father unknown. my Grandmother Constance, she was known as Maude, didnot tell her children the names of their fathers, Not a good look. anyway any more information would be welcome.

Yes, agree ... I think this would be a very useful look-up ... hopefully too, the actual divorce papers will shed further light upon this William Percy ?

[The death notice for "William Percy SIMMONS" - (who seems likely to be the "Wm. Percy HERRON / SIMMONS" ) - did not make mention of any children he may have had].
