I think Annie Gertrude Boam is the daughter that jorose put up who took an overdose.

Been trying to find Charles Church in Hamilton, perhaps he is a brother of Annie Church's??

Hmm... there's a Charles F. Church in Hamilton in 1881, C. Traveller, wife Emily A. He was born Ontario, but was younger than Annie, so it's possible they moved over when she was little.

On the 1871 census heads of household index, Elizabeth Church, 46, b. England, has the same reference as Silas Boam - possibly he was living with her? This could be the mother-in-law, (Mary) Elizabeth Church (nee?).

Could be Jorose, cause on the 1871 Census for Silas it states "head of household surname different"

Here's a link to the Ontario Cemetery finding aid, there are quite a few Church's who are buried in Wentworth County.

I have  access to more data myself now...G E Boam aged 4 appears with Silas and "Charlot" in the Kansas census in 1885. So born 1880 or thereabouts - that would be Gertrude E who died 1899 aged 19 and is buried with Silas and Charlotte P in Topeka.

Annie Gertrude Boam was born 10 years earlier.

Thanks JJ !

It gets more interesting...just been looking at the 1920 and 1930 censuses. In 1920 Silas' daughter Pearl Boam is rooming with Dr Charles F Menninger and family in Topeka .. in 1930 she is still with them and is shown as adopted.

C F Menninger was one of the founders of the Menninger Foundation

Apparently he married Pearl Boam in 1948!

Interesting...I saw the other Boam names, but I haven't access to the census, so I didn't know there was a Pearl
( Here as marrying a lifelong family friend, not an adopted child ) Is Benjamin K. his as well?

Hi JJ,

Silas did have a son Benjamin K (Knolton) Boam born 1882 ( I have just seen his WW1 draft card) but the one mentioned as being inducted into the army in 1943 must be grandson Benjamin Keith Boam who is mentioned in this 1933 obit for Eada Boam:

Back to the Church family....in the GRO index there's the birth of an Anne Church registered in Faringdon RD (which takes in bits of Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire) in 1Q 1842.

There's also a Hannah Church registered in Abingdon 1Q 1844.
