CAROLINE NASH
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 15:11 BST (UK) »

Hi

I found in IGI Caroline Nash christened 16th November 1828 in Funtington Sussex, mother Lucy Nash .

No father mentioned here, can anyone help as to where I can find details of father. I have Lucy Nash married to William Nash as an ancestor so the Lucy mentioned as Caroline's mother may be the same

Hello Ian,

I've checked the Sussex Marriage Index and the only William Nash marriage to a Lucy is:

Westbourne, West Sussex
24th October 1810
William Nash (of West Thorny)
Lucy Knight

There are no Lucy Nash marriages on the SMI at all.

I've done a quick search of A2A for both Lucy and Caroline at the WSRO, but drawn a blank.

The IGI has a number of children of William and Lucy baptised at Funtington from 1815 to 1834, and there is a big enough gap between two of them for Caroline to fit in. The eldest appears to have been baptised at Westbourne, which would have been Lucy's home parish.

It might pay to check the original register, available on microfilm at your local FHC, to see if the fathers name is listed but was omitted when they were transcribed. There might be something written in the register.
