Emails - Deleting unopened
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 22:31 BST (UK) »

This is a very basic question, but I am on Incredimail for my emails, and cannot understand how to delete a suspicious email without opening it.  Could someone please help an old lady, as one day I may get one that I want to get rid of without opening  !!??

Hi Jollery,

When I was using Incredimail, all Email addy's that were not added to my Address Book went to the Junk Mail Box, and so I never had any problems.

If an Email comes into Junk mail that you know is from a friend, it only goes there because you haven't added them to the address book, just drag it into your normal mail box.

I am using OE at the moment, and really have to be careful what I open up.
If  I  doubt I right click, and right click for delete also...hopefully someone will be along soon to say that is the correct thing to do

I will be going back to Incredimail, I really felt a lot safer using it because of the Junk Filter.

Not sure about how Incredimail works but on OE you need to make sure 'preview pane' is turned off (if that box is checked and you see a preview for a message then it's the same as opening the message as far as viruses are concerned).

Thanks Ambers, I tried to delete one the other day that I thought looked a bit suspicious, thankfully it wasnt, but it opened.   Worried me a bit, but have been trying to think what to do.  Dont think my junk mail filter is on, so will look at that.

I'm a bit thicko on these things -have to wait sometimes till a member of the family comes that understands it all.

Thanksagain,   Jollery

Thanks aghadowey,

I am new to OE, and didn't realise about the 'preview pane' having to be turned off .

Think preview pane option is on when you install the programme but I only found out about it a few years ago when my computer got a virus and I was then told that it should be turned off.

If you get a copy of Kaspersky Internet Security 7, you can configure it to download the headers only of the mail waiting in your POP3 box, and you have the option of deleting it before it's downloaded, or to download suspicious mail to a specific folder.  All this takes place automatically when your mail program goes to get the mail.  You can also set up mail rules for automatic downloading.
