Hi all, can anyone help locate these addresses for me please. I know it may be difficult to pin-point them, but any ideas welcomed. I've tried 'leodis' the photo archive but no luck. Thanks in advance. Regards, TonyR.

Hi Tony, I think I would try old-maps.co.uk and search the area around the districts that you mention - Wortley, Armley and Hunslet. Time consuming but the maps date from about 1851 so the addresses you need should be there.

Tony,
Using Find My Past tells me that in 1861 Duce Square ,Wortley(not Duce's) was at RG9/3349 folio 132 page from 25.Reg district of Hunslet. Maybe you can look at the index on Ancestry to get a rough idea of surrounding streets?
Likewise Turkey Street Hunslet(Leeds) is at RG9/3369 folio 102 from page 14.
Hullah's Row does not appear- I'll try 1871 next.
Carol

Tony, The format has changed but there is a tab on the right hand side of the map that enlarges it to full screen. You will then see it on a new page. Dave

Hi Carol, thanks for all the info. The links don't work for me because I'm not paid up member of Ancestry, but I'll have a look at surrounding streets (good idea) next time I'm at library. It was Duce's on birth cert & it's possible Hullah's Row (also off another birth cert) has already dis-appeared by 1861. I don't have membership for Findmypast either, but it seems to have the edge over Ancestry when searching for addresses.
Dave, I'll have to experiment a bit more with maps, but at moment I cannot enlarge it to full screen like you suggest. The frame stays same size but map is enlarged within that frame, trouble is it then only covers smaller area, so I'm going to have to 'twiddle' with it. Thanks both for your interest & help. Regards, TonyR.

Tony, not the enlarger on the left but a separate button on the right (lowest of 4). You then need to open the new page. Dave
