In 1800 Hx parish burial reg states a husband's occupation as a 'delver".
Can anyone tell me what this means please? In previous records the man had been said to be a weaver.
I've looked in the rootschat lexicon for the term and can't see it there - doesn't mean it isn't there though somewhere!
Thanks, charlotte

Hi again .. Maybe that could be a weaver fallen on hard times..? Although one would wonder why do that when weaving- if done at home- would fit better with minding a sick wife and kids and apy more money I guess he could have run out of money with which to buy the raw materials.. so many ifs.
Thanks for the help, charlotte

Malcolm, Thank you for reminding me that I should have looked there. Your site is wonderful and I frequently check it out for things. Thanks for all the work that has very obviously gone into it.
So Thomas Hargreaves could have fallen on hard times and gone working as a delver. Probably better than the workshouse.
Thanks Andrea for the link and Ruskie also.
Thanks all, charlotte
