I am still on the trail of the elusive Thompson Family! Now I am trying to find Isaac Thompson's son Isaac who appears in the 1841 Census as a 4 year old. I think he married a woman called Eliza Knight and according to the Teeside Registrar he was about 30 when they married in 1866. In the 1881 Census there is only one person who might fit the bill. He is Isac Thompson, a railway clerk married to an Eliza and they have several children of which one, Edith is on the 1871 Census living with her grandparents Isaac and Hannah Thompson. The only problem is this Isac is 6 years younger than I would hope. Could someone please check the 1871 census for this Isac or Isaac Thompson? Thanks Scott

Thank you very much for that. I wonder why he would lie about his age so drastically just 10 years later. I am hoping to be able to find his descendent's to the present day! Scott

Hello, I'm Angus, Scott's 1st cousin once removed. Isaac and Hannah were great great grandparents of mine through their son John and his son Frederick Ralph. I told Scott about Isaac's father Isaac and his wife Margaret Jackson. Any more re the Jackson's of Brancepeth woud be welcome. Also, are we all related? Best wishes, Angus Thompson

I just need three more things to wrap up the loose ends for the Thompson's of Hartlepool; the 1881 Census for the Isaac and Hannah Thompson family (I doubt that either Isaac or Hannah survived to the 1891 Census) and the 1881 Census and1901 Census for the John and Amanda Thompson. Can any of you good people help? Scott
Did you find the 1881 for John & Amanda? Here's the 1901:
RG13/4640 fol.39 p.29 1 Roller Street, West Hartlepool, Durham THOMPSON John head m 52 Clerk C.C. Durham Gateshead Amanda Mary wife m 50 " West Hartlepool F.R. son 18 Drapers Assistant " " Florence Maud dau 16 " " Arthur son 15 " "

Hi Scott
Did you find Isaac in the 1891 already??
He was a boarder in Ilkley, Yorks along with his wife, Eliza, and daughters Edith 21 and Louisa 17 both born West Hartlepool (which for some reason is shown as Yorkshire). On this one he says he is born 1843.
It was a huge institution they were living in - I had to go back about 6 pages of census to find out what it was. They were in Cowpasture Road at the Craiglands Hydropathic Establishment???
RG12/3528 Folio 15 Page 23
In 1901 he was back in West Hartlepool and back to his right age again - this time showing as being born Monkwearmouth (which is to the north of the river in Sunderland). While he is marked as married his wife is not with him. In the same house are two daughters, Louisa 27 and Minnie 23. (Maybe he lied to his wife about his age and only got honest when she wasn't around)
RG13/4637 Folio 177 Page 43
I can't find his wife at the moment
Hope this helps!
Ashley

Sorry I forgot to mention Isaac the elder.
As you probably know in 1881 he was at the Hospital of God in Greatham, marked as a Brother of the Hospital. Hw was a widower. So Hannah is probably the one who died Hartlepool 1874 Q2 10a/115 aged 68.
Isaac disappears between 1881 and 1891 so he may be the one who died Hartlepool 1882 Q1 10a/77 aged 77.
