Thanks so much  Tati
I was hoping Nellie would be with parents  ( rumour said Eliza and Arthur) . However Grandma and Grandpa are better than nothing.
Back to 1891 and see if Charles and Hannah have a son Arthur.

Thanks again

I thought you'd be a bit disappointed  Undecided

In 1891 Charles and 'Ann' are all on their own.

This looks like them in 1881 - no Arthur showing ...

Tati
Once again I THANK YOU
I am doing this for a friend and she had also heard family rumours that Nellie T did not 'have a daddy'. What you have found is certainly leaning toward the truth of this rumour!!!!

Do you still have the 1891 census available and could look up Eliza Ann taylor age 14 . She obviously wasn't at home. Maybe that was her downfall !!!!

Thanks so much ... You're great!

1891 shows her in service (well, I think it's her) :

RG12/2827 88 16
Lymm St Mary, Cheshire
Village

Jane E Rowson, head,wid, 57, Draper, b. Yorkshire Leeds
Kate E, dau, s, 22, Draper's assistant, b. Cheshire Lymm
Jesse, son, s, 27, Draper's Assistant, b. do.
Eliza Taylor, serv, 15, General Servant Domestic, b. Northwich

Just checked 1871 - Charles and Ann were already married, no children showing

I suppose you know this but the birth cert would tell her mother's name (and father's if any entered)

Nellie Thompson Taylor
Dec 1897
Runcorn  8a 214

certs are £7 from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

OK, maybe this is a complete red herring but I thought I'd post it anyway, in case the names ring a bell with your friend

I've been searching for Eliza in 1901 and the most likely woman I see is an Eliza Moss
RG13/3334 119 31
Runcorn, Cheshire
86 Church Street
4 rooms occupied

Arthur Moss, head, 24, Copper Works Labourer, b. Derby Derbyshire
Eliza A, wife, 23, b. Northwich Cheshire
Arthur, son, 4 months, b. Runcorn

There isn't a marriage for an Arthur Moss to an Eliza in Cheshire (at least not on FreeBMD) but there is one in Lancashire:
Jun 1900 - Prescot registration district - 8b 1186
Arthur Moss to possibly Eliza Ann Taylor
(and looking on a map, the Prescot registration district is very close to Runcorn)

Just another quick thank you...My friend left here on cloud nine or somewhere in cyberspace!!
You clicked with the family... all names made sense ..and the marriage she had been looking for in Canada was found in Lancashire !! Imagine.

Take care

I've searched for Charles on earlier census but can't find one born Northwich. Now 1881 had him from Witton Cheshire and the 1861 census shows this possible boy:

1861
RG9/2604 40 19
Witton, Cheshire
Cock Pit Field

William Taylor, head, wid, 59, Laborer, b. Gt Badworth
Hannah, dau, unm, 20, House Keeper, b. do.
Charles, son, unm, 17, Apprentice to Smith, b. Witton

Back in 1851 this looks like the same boy:
HO107/2165 437 13
Northwich, Cheshire
Cross Street

William Taylor, head, 48, Salt Boiler, b. Northwich
Elizabeth, wife, 47, b. do.
Joseph, son, 24, Labourer, b. Comberbach
William, son, 22, Boiler Maker, b. do.
Ann, dau, 20, b. do.
Mary, dau, 18, b. do.
Jane?, dau, 16, b. do.
Hannah, dau, 10, b. do.
Betsey, dau, 8, b. do.
Charles H, son, 6, b. do.

Still guessing ...

Marriage Dec 1865 Northwich  8a 376
John Taylor - Ann Salkin
CheshireBMD (http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/cheshirebmd/index.html) shows the marriage at Witton (Northwich), St Helen

1851
HO107/2165 465 6
Castle Northwich (Gt Budworth ecclesiastical parish)

William Salkin, head, 34, Labourer, b. Lancashire Theake
Eliza, wife, 34, b. Cheshire Gt Budworth Parish
Elizabeth Wilkinson, wife's daughter before marriage stepdaughter, 17, Bonnet Maker, b. do.
Hannah Salkin, dau, 4, scholar, b. do.
William Salkin, son, 1, b. do.
Mary Leather, mother in law, wid, 64, Pauper Waterman's widow, b. do.
Thomas Leather, brother in law, unm, 23, Waterman, b. do.

Eliza Ann's birth certificate would tell if her mother was indeed Salkin:
Birth Eliza Ann Taylor
Jun 1877 Northwich  8a 279
