i am trying to find the parent of william shaw born @1819 retford .. he had a sister called Jane shaw born 1829 retford

william shaw married ann coghill then married eliza robinson ...have found him on all census but never with his parents ...

was hoping to find jane with parents  but no luck so far ...

also on igi there is no retford only easr retford  why >?

the town lies to the east and West of the river Idle .East Retford is the administrative and official name of the town this is shortened to Retford.

William Shaw baptism East Retford 4 Sept 1829 parents William Shaw and Harriet. William Shaw married Harriet Golland in West Retford 11 Aug 1823, other children for this couple were
Harriet bap 23 Jan 1826 died 24 Jul 1832
George bap 23 Jul 1828 died 23 Oct 1828
Betsy bap 9 Oct 1831 died 11 Jul 1833
Henry bap 1 Mar 1824
Gervas (sic) 3 Oct 1841
all these baptisms took place in East Retford, no Jane found.

thanks but don't think this is the right one as mine was born 1819 ?? east retford  any siteing of one born 1819 please definately had a sister jane born 1829 ??

How are you sure he was born 1819? not being rude but I have found variations in birth dates in my own tree as much as 15 years in one case-a misprint on the census....Also I may have just missed Jane in my search.

hi I knmow what you mean but i visited the gravestone last weekend at legbourne ... also seem to have put hie sister down as jane it was elizabeth  sorry  Embarrassed

Hi the dates I gave you were for baptisms rather than births . Also there is a Betsy there which is, or can be a shortened version of Elizabeth. I found a William and wife Eliza in Legbourne Lincs on the 1861 census he is an ag lab b c 1821.Also gravestones are not always accurate my husbands gran is on hers as Lousie when it should be Louise.

1841 census 2 William Shaws born E Retford 1 1821 the other 1829.
1881 census 12 Alford Rd Legbourne
William Shaw aged 62 Ag lab
Eliza wife aged 47 charwoman b Holbeach with children John, Henry ,George and Lucy Ann. if you don't have acess to the census and want to see the images give me youe E mail and I can send them to you.
