Hi Barbara

I found Gladys but am having trouble with the others especially Thomas, George and Polly. What would Polly be short for?

Polly could be her name, but possibly a nickname from Mary Margaret or Molly  Huh

You could also try the Durham county council website http://www.durham.gov.uk/gro/newgro.nsf/search?open&C0220218170217022005$

Here's a Jane

Dec 1905  Durham 10a   398    Jackson    Jane

Freebmd is not completely transcribed, so you may have to use the full GRO index either on ancestry or findmypast, both are pay-to-view sites

Hi Barbara

Thanks for looking. I tried the Durham website but no luck. I did have full worldwide subs for Ancestry but it expired and I'm waiting to see if they come back to me with some incentive. Probably will wait a long time till I finally crack and give in. Thanks again for your help

Hi Lynne

This is very kind of you as I am still no further. I am looking forward to your reply. Thanks for the marriage of Thomas and Margaret - that would fit as I found an old photo of their golden wedding, very low key, dated 1948. It made me smile, on the table was a bottle of brown sauce and she was dressed all in black, hat and all! I was a little suprised there was no baptism for Sarah as I thought I had found a birth reg for her in 1899. However she was always known as Sally when I was young but whether she was baptised Sarah or Sally I'm not sure. Thanks again.

Hi Lynne

Thanks for the dates, yes that is the Douthwaite family, brilliant. I am a bit confused over the 1901 census. I had also seen that one but what is confusing me is that in 1881 Thomas was living at Brandon and Byshottles he was born abt 1880. In 1901 there is a Thomas living or staying overnight with his mother Jane Morton who I believe remarried to a William Morton - although I don't know where he is in 1901. This Thomas was staying at Spennymoor, Whitworth born 1880 Brandon on the night of the census. Both of them were working in a pub so that could be the reason. However I cannot seem to find a Margaret on her own with Sarah. Would value your opinion please if you have time.

Hi evie,I will have a look now for you problem is there seems to be a thomas jackson who was born brandon and in 1901 was still living brandon without margaret and sarah thats what made me think your thomas could be the one in 1901 west rainton, have you bought the marriage certificate for thomas and margaret to find out who there fathers were and it will have there ages on the certificate,my family came from brandon front street the rundles with them being miners they moved about a lot ,with not being able to find sarah on the brandon parish records it looks like they did move after marriage but I could be wrong
lynnej
added there marriage is on durham county council reg if you order on line you will recieve it in a couple of days

Hi Lynne

The parents of Thomas Jackson were Thomas Jackson (what a suprise) and Jane Smith who on the Durham gov website married again to Morton. The parents of Margaret were William Douthwaite and Jane Colver (on the 1891 census brother in law James Colver staying). In 1881 census Thomas living at 12 Jones Terrace, Brandon and whether this is a huge coincidence but it is where my Gran, Thomas' daughter was born in 1912. In 1891 Thomas I think was living at Framwellgate with his mother Jane Morton (born Southwick) she was a shop keeper. Unless of course I am completely on the wrong track but I don't think so.

Hi Lynne
Just found Glady's baptism certificate again and it said a copy from the primitive methodist  register book of baptisms Langley Moor in Brandon circuit. Maybe your CD doesn't cover those. I am about to send for the marriage certificate of Margaret and Thomas as no other rellies have it.
