Hollyanna's Scavenger Hunt. Everyone Welcome To Join In.
« on: Tuesday 06 May 08 14:12 BST (UK) »

Hi and welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt and It's Hollyanna's turn.   And what an interesting Hunt this is going to be.    Please read through carefully as you could get a little confused if you don't.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Barbara

                       ***********************

I would like to continue for the hunt of my Grandmother Minnie Hughes.

Working backwards. Minnie Hughes is my Mother's mother, the only thing I know about her is that she died on March 7th 1950 age 70.

We believe that she was born in 1880, I am 99% sure that her birthday was on 30/31st December. I have looked January quarter 1880 and January quarter 1881 with no luck. I have sent for 3 likely certs again no luck.

On the 1881 census there was a Minnie Hughes born at 29 Walker Road,Walker, Longbenton, Northumberland, who was was living with parents Patrick and Elizabeth Hughes both born in Ireland.

I cannot find that birth cert. for her.  That Minnie interests me as I was told that she was Irish and RC, also told that she went to a Convent to live or for schooling.

Did her Mum die that's perhaps why she was put into a Convent??.

Cannot find her anywhere on the 1891 census.

1901 Minnie was living in Lambeth with Grandfather Harry Patchett and Harry Jnr.(Paget) her son was born in Eton in August 1900.

On all her children's birth certs she put her maiden name down as Minnie Hughes, she had 9 Children. My Mother put her Mothers name down as Winifred Hughes.  Story went that they ran away to get married, also unable to find marriage cert.

My Grandfather lived most of his life in Eton/Windsor I just feel that they may have met through Eton College or Windsor Castle, I have been in touch with them, again no luck.

It would be lovely just to find something out about.  Many thanks.

Hi Les  Grin

I keep getting confused with her name ...Minnie always called herself Minnie but Minnie's daughter called her Winifred.  So maybe Minnie and winnie are interchangeable somehow  Undecided
