I am trying to find my grandmothers family, she was Harriett White nee \Sutton.She married Cornelius White in July 1899, in Portsmouth aged 21. She is thought to have come from Kent. her father was Samson Sutton ( fisherman ) I have found a Samson Sutton in Hastings living with his daughter Emma.
I have Just found a Harriett Sutton widow aged 70 in Medway Workhouse, listed as a hawker and being born in Brussels B.S. wherever that is. I am hoping this is Samson"s mother. Now I have hit a brick wall, not sure where to go from here, any suggestions.

Hi Pandora,

Brussels BS means that she was born in Brussels but is a British Subject.

What birthplace and age does Samson have on the census?  If he was born in England or Wales then you can hunt for his birth registration (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com) ; a copy of his birth certificate will show his parents and occupation of his father.
