Hi,
Would anyone be able to check the entry for the following marriage in the bishop's transcripts for me:
John Nelson - Penelope Johnson 21 Jan 1835 Stainton, Durham.
Thanks.

If you register with
http://search.labs.familysearch.org
(it's free)
they have BT's for Stainton, Durham up to 1855. It will be a page by page search though.
I'm sorry - I see it's a different Stainton you are after - that'll teach me to read more carefully

You should be able to get the film of the Stainton parish records to search at your nearest LDS centre - that is assuming you are not near Middlesbrough or Northallerton. The original is more reliable than the BT as with any transcript there is a possibility for error. Andrea

Just to butt in here if I may.
Co-incidentally, I am planning to visit my local LDS centre to order the film for Stainton in Cleveland. I am looking for a birth in 1803.
However looking at the catalogue on the FamilySearch site, I am unable to locate any records for Stainton in Cleveland. I've tried just Cleveland plus a few other combinations, but found nothing.
Can anyone help please?

Hi
Cleveland is a modern region post 1974? There is more than one Stainton in England but if you mean the one near Middlesboro then it would be Yorkshire. There is another Stainton only some 20 miles away in Durham and a Great Stainton and Little Stainton both about 10 miles from Middlesboro also in Durham, so you do need to make sure you have the correct one. The link below is to Stainton in Yorkshire

Thanks Andy, IGI says the birth was Stainton In Cleveland - the Yks one nr Middlesborough, as Claret says. No mention of this Stainton in the LDS library site - not filmed perhaps . I was hoping to obtain the film.

Hi Ruskie
If you search the LDS Library for Stainton, one of the options is England, York, Stainton (near Yarm). I think thats the one,
Andy
