Hi
I have Emily Parfitt 1860 ,middlesex Clara Parfitt 1862, Clerkenwell, Middlesex. Albert Parfitt. 1870 middlesex.
their parents were Henry Parfitt fron Somerset, and Emma ?? from maybe Holborn, London.
my question is , how can I find Emma's maiden name, without sending for a wedding cert
thankyou from Eilleen.

Emily was b sept qtr 1859 Clerkenwell as Emily Alice...
1861 ref: RG9/196; F/90; P/36
The marriage mAR 1852 clerkenwell is a good a candidate as any.
A reasonable candidate for Emma would be (in 1851) HO107/1487; F/49; P/22

I'd have considered his occupation too 'respectable' to be able to dispense with the paperwork till 1862.

That's OK
They seems to be a bit short on surviving kids for such a long marriage. Then again, 1861-1871 is a bit sparse too...

Just running this by you , in 1881 Henry Parfitt and wife Emma , had staying with them a unmarried sister Elizabeth Scott ,,
would this maybe mean Emma 's maiden name was Scott
what do you think

Convoluted or what
The relationship is supposed to be to the Head of Household; but Catherine Gilbody must be the sister of Emma - albeit much older ....
In 1871, Cath is with husband John AND a nephew Walter SCOTT.
RG10; Piece: 391; Folio: 47; Page: 17
so perhaps Elizabeth Scott in 1881 is related to the Gilbody's rather than the Parfitts - if you follow me ?
It might even be a sis-in-law/stepsister relationship - dunno

I can know see that the lady on the 1881 census Widow Catherine Gilbody was married in Dec 1857, to John Gilbody , her maiden name was Scott, the other lady Elizabeth Scott was unmarried aged 60, so I really think that Emma was a Scott
does that make sense, or am I rambling with excitment

and 10 years younger ! She's a visitor and her occupation is a Cook.
I was looking for Walter ... with nowt obvious showing
If Cath married in 1857, she was quite old, I wonder if she was a spinster or not .... she might even be Elizabeths mother ! - there now seems to be 20 years diffn in their age, and Elizabeth is seemingly the same age as Emma ...
So Eileen .... still a dilemma - are these 2 Scott ladies truely the sisters of Emma - if so, it blows the 1852 marriage away ...
