I think that I need to find out a bit more this side about John as I do not know if he
married so could not reply to your post (consiting of valuable information for others also).

 Cool   .... ( there are a couple of possibilities amongst the other names - but hardly worth following up on, unless they belong "with" John Arthur).

The 2 children on board Rangitane who sailed from London on 27 November 1953 to NZ are as follows......
              VICTOR J SLADE  age 10
              LYNDA SLADE  age 6.
Address, 67 Ansell Rd Tooting.

Births           Victor J Slade b Wandsworth 1944,
                   Lynda Slade b Wandsworth  1947,
  mothers name for both GAYTON
Cannot find a marriage for John Arthur Slade which matches.

I have looked in the freebmd also to no avail.

I think I will have to look at the Parish Records and see what I can find.

Also the only marriage I found was for possible parents being

John E Slade to Ethel Maud King.

And King is noted on the birth record (although not certificate) on John's.

Now the gravestone as clear as a bell says Leah.

found the following.

  JOHN A SLADE married a WHITE  at NEW FOREST 1939.
  Kathleen M GAYTON married WHITE at Exeter 1942.

,my imagination is running riot.
but being war time anything is possible.

Just get the death certificate or ask nicely for someone to look the death notice in paper.

Should actually check to see if he is on 1967 death fiche.
