there is an 1875 reference
LIMMING Geo C
AJHR 1875 Section H1 1
Nominal Roll of Civil Establishment of NZ on 30th June 1875
(On NZSG Index)

There are appear to be some google results for others in this journal for this year, but can't see this one

To summarise George Charles Limming (mostly from PapersPast):

Emigrated to New Zealand sometime before 7 Feb 1852 when he is noted on the list of Jurors for the District of Nelson as a labourer living in Haven Road, Nelson and the following year in the same list as a domestic servant in Hardy Street, Nelson.

Appointed to the Customs Service as Tidewaiter, Nelson on 1 Mar 1854. Sometime prior to May 1865 he transferred with the Customs service to Hokitika and was appointed immigration officer for the port of Hokitika in May 1866.

Married to Emma Tydeman in 1869 (courtesy of Alamar) but a notice published in the papers “I will not be responsible for any debt incurred in my name after the date of this notice – dated July 24 1872” suggests that he was by then separated and/or divorced.  In May 1872 Emma Limming is in court on a charge of theft of a purse which was dismissed for lack of evidence.

On 5 July 1880 he attended his retirement function and the only subsequent mention of the name Limming in Hokitika is that of his wife in another court case.  The final mention of a Mr Limming (could be George Charles, though he would by now be 70 years old) is on 31 Jul 1894 as a passenger on the ship Talune bound for Sydney from Wellington.

May have stayed in Australia or perhaps he was on his way home to England.
