Me and The Buffalo 1993
|
On Monday evening I was happily looking up this and that on my computer with loads of windows open. When suddenly the screen went BLACK! It would not come back on whatever I tried - turning off, waiting etc.
Panic, I hadn't backed anything up for ages. I kept meaning to but just hadn't got round to it it.
My computer pal couldn't get to me until yesterday evening and I expected all my "stuff" to be gone. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were spent in virtual mourning. I was very lucky everything is still there. I spent last night backing all my important files on to a memory stick.
So beginners and the more experienced I'd say BACK UP, BACK UP, BACK UP!!! Three days of panic are not worth it. One of the fans had over heated and had given up the ghost - a new fan and a good clean and I'm up and running again.
Also it was interesting to be told that because the fan stopped working the whole thing shut down (safety measure). I thought the whole computer was on the way to the www. graveyard in the sky,
Keep looking and keep backing up, Regards, Abiam

Oh isn't it terrible when you think you have lost your information
My fan packed up on my laptop. It needed a good clean. But it does make you think hard about saving stuff elsewhere. People say the memory sticks aren't to be relied on either, and an external hard drive is best. But I also read a post where the external hard drive went as well! So you end up with saved stuff all over the place to be absolutely certain

The mention of dirt! I am surprised my computer ever worked. It took a good half hour to clean with a soft artist brush while the tech went to buy a new fan. Now working like new until the next "tale of the unexpected" happens, Abiam
