Help! Confused by census!
« on: Monday 12 February 07 13:34 GMT (UK) »

Dear All

can anyone help me decipher a scan from 1841? it is my Great (x3) grandmother - susannah tustin in 1841 census.  the others in the household are listed as NK and Ellen NK, I think - I don't really know what it means as their ages are listed!

HO107/1135/17.  I tried to cut the bit out of the scan and attach it, but my PC objected! Sad

thanks for any help!!

Hi Stephen I have looked at the image on Ancestry and they have just ditto susannah but they have put their ages and if they were male or female.  Going off the ages can you trace them off the 1851 census?  I note Susannah is 60 and one of the not knowns are aged 60 and a male...do you know Susannahs husbands name does the age fit? The other person is a lady aged 30.

On the same page there is another person NK Lamb.. I wonder if someone else gave the census in and they didnt know the names of all the people in the street?Huh

Sorry i can not be of more help

The full Household (delimited between //) is spread over two pages, and for some reason the 3 individuals after your Susannah werent recorded - hence NK ( actually n k) except one christian name Ellen. It may be that the Enumerator couldnt read the writing when he transcribed from the schedule into his book ...

The actual head is Thomas Brown, on the previous page...
