Hi there
Would some be kind enough to do a census look-up for me please in 1861 and 71. I'm looking for an Andrew McWilliam b c1787 Wigtownshire.
In the 1841 census, address Blair Street, Portpatrick, he's listed as a 'blind seaman' born Wigtownshire. In the 1851 census, address 896 Blair St, Portpatrick, he's listed as a 'pauper, ag lab, blind, born Portpatrick'. His wife's name was Agnes, born in Ireland, she died in 1874.
I'm trying to narrow down when he died as I can't find a death record for him. Cheers Julie

hi again had a look for Andrews death between 1851/61 census, no results, i'm new at this but could be possible that Andrew died before 1855, maybe somebody could look at parish records for a death entry. lindy-lou

i'm off out just now but i'll try again later to hopefully find Andrew....1861 census has a family of McWilliam with an Andrew age 77 birth year 1784 but he is listed as "son" ?

hi search on SP 1855-1890 deaths
1859....age not entered, Wigtown 1862.... " , Leswalt the only other 1 is 1881 but fella age given as 83, Stoneykirk, which is probably too young for your Andrew.
1861 census....reg district Leswalt, address "allandoo" Andrew McWilliam, 77 c1784, Leswalt son? ? Barbra 11 " dau Clenentina 8 " " Elizabeth 24 " " Jane 16 " " Janet 13 " " Jenet 52 Stoneykirk, wife Peter 52 Leswalt, head, farmer 120 acres William 20 " son

Hi linda, thanks so much for taking the trouble to do all this. Unfortunately I don't have a definate birth year for Andrew. I'm only going on the census records although they vary which is a bugger. 1841 has him born 1791, 1851 has him born 1787 I also don't have Andrew's parents names which doesn't help. Cheers Julie You do know that in the 1841 census the ages were rounded down to the nearest five (not all enumerators stuck to this) that could account for him being younger in 1841
