Thanks Willow, Hes a mystery. Im quite sure that isnt him but interesting about the possible parents I will have to investigate further. I found him on the 1891 census where he is mentioned as 5 years old - all saints tynemouth northumberland but I wonder if that was just his baptism? mmmmmm Back to the drawing board. Thanks again Jess

Jessy,
Where did you get " All Saints Tynemouth " from ?
All Saints Parish was one of the four ancient parishes of Newcastle.
Tynemouth Parish was Christ Church
His birth place on censuses is mostly Newcastle. Some early census enumerators recorded "parish of birth" rather than " place of birth" !

Jessy,
All Saints-Tynemouth-Longbenton... are THREE different places... although All Saints and Longbenton were neighbouring parishes, the former within Newcastle, the latter outside of Newcastle.
I hope this is not me teaching grannie to suck eggs, but I think you need to identify all the characteristics of your great grandfather and focus on these.
Is the Sowerby family living in Walker, Parish of Longbenton, on Census 1851 (page ref 2411-85-12) "yours" ?

Hi Willow,
William Trotter, the lodger gave his birth place as Seaton Sluice (which at that time lay within Hartley, one of the eight "townships" of the Parish of Earsdon)
The name "Sluice" was added after Lord Delaval added an additional exit to the sea for the Seaton Burn, to make the harbour safer ( to safeguard the exports of the products from his glassworks)
---------------------------------------------
Can anyone see this Sowerby family on Census 1841 ?
