Request for Biggin, Durham ( Reply)
« Reply #16 on: Tuesday 16 September 08 00:21 BST (UK) »

I found this site by accident an hour ago and saw someone posting a request for Biggin, Durham. Now I have registered I can't find it. Please pass this on.

Most people were way out talking about Newbiggin.
There is a Biggin / Biggen between Quebec and Malton (on the R. Browney).
Biggin Terrace is on Hamsteels Lane & Biggen Farms (2) are lower down close to the old Malton pit. Access from the 5 way junction at the bottom of Esh bank.

Thanks for pointing that out, so this is another possibility as well as the farms at Wolsingham  Smiley
There are the two farms Biggen House Farm and a Biggen Farm, but these names only appear on the 1970-79 map, before this it was just called Biggin. Biggin Terrace is not on the 1856-1865 map, but is on the later ones. There are only two houses, now called Fosside and Lowmede.

Hi Andrea
I presume the lady you are referring to is Jane Coates nee Crozier.
She was my great, great, great, grandmother.
I haven't been able to figure out the Biggin conundrum, I suppose the only way is to find a baptism record, but I haven't managed yet.
Did you know that she died on 1st Oct 1870 in Queen St, North Bailey, Durham City . This appears to be a Cathedral Almshouse.
