Hi Linda,
Unfortunately no, in the 1861 census he is aged 39 and his wife is Elizabeth, but many thanks for trying, much appreciated

Hi Linda, Having second thoughts about your finds, believe now after trawling through many documents, the 1861 census shows his age incorrectly, so once again thanks for taking the time to look for me
Cheers
Colin

I think he is Hugh DOUTY in 1851. HO107/1751 folio 677 page 8
The IGI shows the baptism of Hugh at Sharnbrook in 1822, and the marriage to Elizabeth Elderkin in 1840, again at Sharnbrook. The son Henry is born 1850 at Bedford, and shows on the 1851 census as having father Hugh, but on the IGI as having father William. So, it looks as though Hugh and William are one and the same.

Name & Religion come just after Date of birth....

On 1861 census William & Elizabeth Doughty had a 13 year old daughter Elizabeth born Bedford.
On 1851 Elizabeth Doughty age 3 born Bedford is grand-daughter to Robert Doughty age 58 widower born Sharnbrook, & in same household is his unmarried daughter Sarah age 25. The IGI has baptism of Sarah Doubty at Sharnbrook on 29/10/1826, daughter of Robert Doubty & Sarah.
In 1841 Robert Doughty age 45 (mistranscribed as DONGES) with 15 year old Sarah is living in Sharnbrook. Living next door is John Doughty age 25 & Eliza Doughty age 20. HO107; Piece 8; Book: 14; Folio: 13; Page: 21
John Douty on IGI was another child of Robert & Sarah baptised at Sharnbrook on 14 April 1816; & most likely married Eliza Allen on 24/11/1840. (& via the Allens link into my Partridge family tree)
Although no William son of Robert & Sarah Doubty; there is son Hugh Douty baptised 25 Dec 1822 Sharnbrook; so could be the Hugh that StevenG found.
regards John

The 1841 census in Sharnbrook transcribed as Daughtry
HO107; Piece 8; Folio: Page: 1
Hugh Doughty age 15; Ag lab, born in county Elizabeth Doughty age 20, Not bic Joseph Doughty age 10 months, bic Mary Elderkins age 10, not bic.
If Hugh & Elizabeth are man & wife - then I suspect he's not really 15. Mary is Elizabeth's sister ??

The IGI records a job lot of 4 baptisms on 5 Sept 1858 at St Peters Bedford, children of William & Elizabeth Doughty
Elizabeth, Emma, Mary Ann & Sarah Ann.
3 of the 4 are recorded on 1861 census entry Where's Mary Ann in 1861 ?

Hugh should be 19 in 1841 - and that would be rounded down to 15.

According to one of his descendants from Genes ReUnited; on his marriage cert he is named Hugh Doubty. In index book Hugh Doubly. Known as William after 1851. On death certificate named as William Hugh Doughty.
His parents were Robert Doughty 1796 - 1867 & Sarah Whitney Robert's parents William Doughty 1761 - 1844 & Lucy Payne (Gammons)
