« on: Thursday 08 May 08 22:38 BST (UK) »

Reason.two weeks gone Wednesday left my P.c on stand by for 1 hour. The monitor had switched off.The computer wouldn't switch off, sent it away it was reinstalled with Norton added.Monitor still didn't work, that was the problem not the computer. So had to buy new monitor last Saturday. so spent nearly £200.I have  spent since sunday trying to get my I.p connection to the net back i have now done it. while my computer was away seems the website has moved and they sent me an email which of course i haven't got gos i haven got access to email. The reintall is still windows x.P but it is not the same.I now have a home page M.S.N.U.K What is it please.I am worried in case when i use the net it means the time on will go on my phone bill & i have spent hours on the net. I have also tried getting a new provider but it wont work Sad

If you ran something called Internet Connection Wizard to set up your internet connection then by default it thinks you want to use MSN.UK (MicroSoft Network) as your ISP.

Anyway, changing the home page is easy. Right click your Internet Explorer icon on your desktop and select Properties.  You should see the current URL highlighted.  You can change that URL to whatever your want e.g.

yahoo.co.uk

or

google.com

Because it goes to the MSN home page, it does not mean that they are your ISP.  If you look at the top of the screen it will say on the right hand side:

- Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Your ISP.

I got cut off sorry Wink I use O.E. I have now changed the website but my provider seems to have locked me out.I have been through the setting that the installer did.It said somewhere when connecting allway go to msn Roll Eyes thats why i couldn't change it before.I am now connected by my provider.I was a bit worried when i got the msn? because,I am on Dial up anytime paid monthly.I noticed the other day going through my bank accounts that the provider seems to have forgotten me
If you know what i mean Grin It isn't going on my phone bill.I have ben tying to find a free email  adress for now,so i can contact my daughter in oz.Do they work the same as O.E.and do they stay on your computer or do you have to log into yet another website and recieve junk mail Grin? there are hundreds of them.

Celia   P.S. The other new thingy i have got is something called Phishing protection what is that appentlyit is identity safe

If you want a free email address MSN, Yahoo or Google all do Free web- mail

Its web server based, which means the messages are not downloaded to your pc.

Pfishing protection is safe and is free - part of XP service pack 2 anyway  Undecided

Download Firefox, and use that when browsing the internet.  Should stop your pop-ups.

http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/

Lots of people  use it.

When it is loaded, you open your computer, click on the firefox logo to use the internet.
