HORAN/BAKER HORAN/SMITH
« on: Friday 09 May 08 08:38 BST (UK) »

i am trying to find any info at all on the following sisters.
Georgina Rose Horan born 1872 stockport - 1881 census stockport - married alfred baker in stockport in 1897. i have in 1901 census in Stockton on Tees.

Margaret Hannah Horan born 1867 in stockport - 1871 census in stockport - 1881 census in stockport - 1895 married robert severs smith - 1901 census stockton on tees. they appear to have a child named annie elizabeth smith born 1899

the parents of the above childres were Michael Horan and Ann Collins.

I am sure they would have had more children ??
The sisters had a Brother  Bartholomew Arthur Horan who was my gt grandfather.  any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Belinda,

I see that Robert Margaret and Annie were all living with Georgina in 1901 - where was Georgina's husband Alfred then, did you find him?

Have you looked on www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk for possible births for their children? (I know Smith and Baker are fairly common names!)  The staff at Stockton Register office are very helpful, perhaps you might try contacting them to find any children born 1901 onwards with mothers' maiden names Horan.

Apart from trying to find later children from the marriages of the two sisters, do you have all the census info back to 1841 for Michael Horan/Ann Collins or do you need help with that too?

hi barbara, nice to hear from you and thanks for that advice.
i have the wedding of michael horan and ann collins in stockport at the chapel of st. philip and st jamess in 1866 and on his marriage cert it states his father was named michael horan and a tailor. on the occupation of add collins it states her father was cornelius collins - soldier deceased. when michael and ann collins married it states he was 23 yrs  old and she was 22 yrs old.
i have them in the 1861 census in stockport at bennisons court.
michael horan head marr 45 tailor  ireland county mayo
ellen horan wife marr  46 housewife  ireland county mayo
mary horan dau unm age 27 factory operative ireland county mayo
michael horan son unm 16 factory operative ireland county mayo
ellen horan - dau 9 scholar stockport cheshire
also a number of lodgers named lee and mcgough.
i do not have the birth cert of ellen however there seems to be 2 born in stockport in same yr one reg here and one reg elsewhere.
on the irish history foundation i found and payed for what i am sure is young michael's baptism/birth name michael  horan date of baptism 18/09/1842 in ballyshees, parish burriscarra r.c. parish - mother ellen mcentire and father michael horan however some one has said you cannot be sure of this !!!
godparents david and judith gibbons. however i could not find a marriage for michael horan and ellen mcentire.
i did find a marriage of a michael kenny to an ellen mcentire 1838 aglish rc parish mayo.
Alfred baker i think it is the right one in 1901 census at 15 mary street stockton-on tees aged 20 with william and hannah baker (his parents??0
any help or advice greatly appreciated .
