« on: Friday 09 May 08 11:21 BST (UK) »

I just uploaded the new Romany DNA project web site. The site is still under construction so bear with me while I spruce it up and add more content.

Ooh very exciting.  Cheesy

I have had my mitochondrial dna tested and both my parents have had their full dna profile done so I would love to see other results (although I'm sure some people might have reservations).
My mum is 1/6 Indian and my dad is 1/10 (I always get that mixed up). Both have massive amounts of south-eastern European blood (my dads was 44% and my mums was 36% I think).

I am of the matrilineal line K. A lot of Finnish people have this as well and orginates in the Ukraine or there abouts and ends up in Northern Italy (approx. 25,000 years ago). I know there are a lot of Finnish Romanies so it is possible that as my ancestors were passing through eastern Europe (700 years or so ago) they married a woman descended from this ancient Eastern European and the people split up some of the descendants going north to Finland and my lot carrying on west.

No idea unfortunately although I should be able to get him tested - just a case of finding the time and funds. My dad is mainly Irish though especially on his dad's side, his mum's side is where he gets most of his 'foreign' blood.
